December - Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! Our girl Lily, 8 years old, is recovering well from her
knee operation and is thoroughly enjoying the attention and care she receives from the entire family.
In the photo (right) she's enjoying some quality time with "Grandma."
Lily is our permanent housesitter and loyal and devoted member
of our family. She is retired from our sledding team but we hope that she will make a full recovery so that
she can join us on a shorter mountain hike next summer.

September - DNA testing We've had some of our dogs DNA-tested for the long coat gene to find out who are clear and who are carriers of the gene that produces long coats.
This test is an excellent tool when planning combinations since one can now find out in advance if there is a risk there will be any woolie coats
in the litter and also avoid producing long coats altogether. You can find more information about the test at this website:

July - Tuisku 2 years old! At two years of age, Tuisku is fulfilling the promise he showed as a puppy and in addition to being a very good looking male,
Tuisku is also a super sled dog and a joyful packmember and companion.
During this summer Tuisku has also attended an outdoor agility class in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden.
This was Tuisku's first real attempt at agility but thanks to our instructor Madeleine Baas, he managed to learn all obstacles in one day.
While time is an important factor in competitive agility, we took it very slow this first time, focusing on getting in right rather than fast.

April - Spring training - 07 Spring arrived with a bang at the end of March, waking us all up from winter hibernation. Intense sunshine,
still 1 meter of powder on the ground and only a few degrees below freezing point - March and April is our favorite time of the year!
Since our senior girl Lily is retired from working activities and Leia was expecting her litter,
this spring our sledding team was made up of our two boys; Tuisku, 1.5 years, and Thunder, 2.5 years.
Tuisku and Thunder love to work and we had lots of fun together, sledding and skijoring in the forest surrounding our cabin and along trails in the nearby Ounastunturi mountain range,
staying overnight in cozy wilderness huts. After a long training season the boys were in perfect condition and displayed the same amount of enthusiasm and power each day until winter finally gave way to summer in mid-May...

March - A star is born On March 31st Leia delivered a strong and beautiful black & white
female puppy through C-section. We are very happy that both mother and daughter are doing well and that the puppy is a girl - which
is exactly what we hoped for! Our puppy "Jeti" (named after her grandfather Jet) is the
result of a breeding between Snowhow Shade of Raven, "Leia", and Mtn Home's Spring In The Air, WTD,
"Sunny", using frozen semen. We are very excited about our beautiful new family member.
Since she is a singleton and has her mother all to herself, we must take care not to spoil this little princess any further...

January - Tuisku Best In Show! What better way to start the new year than with a BIS-win?!! Our 18-month old boy Tuisku looked
great in his full winter coat as he entered the ring at the Swedish Polardog Club event,
Kiruna Snowdog 2007. This annual midwinter show held outdoors in the town of Kiruna in Swedish Lapland saw many beautiful representatives of the four polar breeds
and Tuisku had some tough competition from some very nice Siberian Huskies before judge Nils Hannu picked his winner. Below follows the critique, translated from Swedish to English:
"A handsome Alaskan Malamute of excellent size and type. Has a beautiful neck and an excellent back and depth of chest. Well angulated front and rear,
great movement in all directions."
