Winter began in early October with a huge snowfall. We got our sleds out in no time and took the opportunity
to try Jeti (7 months) and Bruno (9 months) in harness for the very first time. Two-year-old Tuisku accompanied
them as lead dog. It was exciting to see how the youngsters would do in front of the sled...

...They did REALLY well, breaking trail in deep snow and working with
tight tug lines. A geat start to the sleddding season!

Our puppy Gemma joined us in the beginning of 2008, about the same time as the
sun returned from below the horizon, marking the beginning of spring!

A beautiful winterday.

Gemma has a very sweet nature and quickly became part of the pack.
Here she is hanging out with older half-sister Jeti (left) and her buddy Bruno (middle).

Bear-Pak Blackfoot "Bruno" turned 1 year old in January. This handsome young
male is now living with his breeders in Italy, as part of their pack of working
Alaskan Malamutes in the Abruzzi mountains. www.bear-pak.com
Look out for Bruno in the show rings during summer!

This winter the reindeer did not invade our property as they usually do and we
have been able to go on off lead walks with a group of dogs each day. Most of
our dogs can be trusted off lead and enjoy exploring the woods surrounding our cabin.
On this photo Thunder, Gemma and Leia are heading home.

Gemma (5 months) and Jeti (10 months) out and about.

We have also spent a lot of time on the trail this winter, training our youngsters in harness.
Here Bruno and Jeti are taking a well-deserved breather.

A beautiful day in March.

The Pallas-Ounastunturi National Park is within easy skiing distance of our cabin and its friendly,
lowmountain terrain is perfect for our skijoring excursions. This photo is from a late evening
training run with Tuisku. We have the whole mountain to ourselves.

Snow-wise, it's been a phenomenal winter and we've been able to sled
every day from mid October to the beginning of May.

Jeti and Tuisku in deep snow.

We're now in the second half of May and there's still about one meter left of this mountain of snow on
our yard. Unless we have a really hot summer the snow may actually linger on until August, which
is when we usually have our first frost. Sometimes spring and fall blend into one another in Lapland,
and the brief summer in between becomes barely noticeable...Great for Malamutes, but we wouldn't
mind at least a couple of weeks of sizzling hot summer before it's time to put on the woolie hat again...
